Love Your New Job

by Gina Cappiello, www.123Movers.com

You know you're lucky to have found a new job--nonetheless, you're just not that into it. Whether it's not a good match for your skills or it just doesn't feel right, here are some tips on how to fall in love (or at least "in like") with your new gig:

Keep searching.
Don't let having a job you don't enjoy hinder your quest for a great job. When you're not at work, utilize your free time to look for more-desirable positions. Expand your search to cities you wouldn't mind moving to. You can better your chances of finding something great by broadening your horizons. You can even try networking through colleagues at your job for a new role, but tread softly.

Be humble.
It can be disappointing to go from working in your own office to hauling boxes for a moving company. But even though having a "lesser" job than you're used to is a blow to your self-esteem, don't look at it negatively. Take the time to appreciate your new job by stepping off your pedestal and truly understanding what your coworkers deal with daily. This humbling experience may teach you many lessons that you can use in a different role down the line.

Learn from it.
In these tough times, it's vital to constantly be learning. Try seeing your less-than-perfect job as the perfect opportunity to brush up on the skills you may have neglected in other positions. Doing telesales instead of marketing? Study every call for the right things to say in difficult phone conversations. Find yourself stuck in an administrative role? Use the job to brush up on your meeting-planning and organizational skills. These newly honed skills can be added to your resume and may make you a more-desirable candidate for better jobs in the future.

Keep an open mind.
Working at a boutique in the mall may not be the job you dreamed of, but it may become just that with an attitude adjustment. Going into work with an open mind and a positive outlook can do wonders for your work ethic. You may quickly find yourself enjoying your workdays much more. You may also discover that you're good at this job and want to grow with the company. Explore management and corporate opportunities with your HR department, and make sure to prove to upper management that you're suited to a higher-ranking role in the company.

Enjoying your job regardless of what it is can boost your mood, provide you with some sanity, and give you a great reason to get up in the morning. Consider these tips daily while you're at work, and you'll soon be on your way to a happier relationship with your position.
